This #PSRW we are proud to partner with so many outstanding public servants. Each day this week, we will share individuals’ stories about why they work in public service.
Our first public servant is none other than David Connor, Executive Director of the Tennessee County Services Association. Read David's story below:
Sometimes the obstacles that knock you off your path end up being a huge blessing. In law school, I planned to join a small private law firm after graduation. While studying to take the bar, some events happened at the firm and they had to rescind the offer. I floundered for almost a year before I landed a job in the Coordinator of Elections’ office with the Secretary of State.
That job introduced me to CTAS and about two years later, I joined the legal staff there. I loved the opportunity to work on public policy issues and help county officials achieve goals for their communities. I also worked a great deal with the associations on legislative issues until 2007, when I left to join the County Commissioners Association and eventually, TCSA.
County government makes a huge difference in the lives of Tennesseans. To spend a career working with local and state officials to make county government the best it can be has been incredibly rewarding. I don’t directly serve the citizens, but I feel like I’ve been able to contribute in small ways to help communities across the state. It’s not always been easy, but it’s never boring.
Stay tuned this week as we hear from more great public servants!
