From October 22 to 24, 2024, 24 sheriffs who were midway through their first term gathered in Franklin, Tennessee, for a mid-term training session. This executive-level training focused on critical areas such as jail issues, budgeting, auditing, internal controls, and liability mitigation.
The training was developed as a supplement to the New Sheriffs' School, which is mandatory after each election cycle. During the three-day event, attendees had the opportunity to collaborate with fellow sheriffs and the CTAS public safety and legal teams. This collaboration allowed them to address challenges and share ideas based on their experiences during their first two years in office.
One of the key outcomes of this training is the announcement of a New Chief Deputy mid-term training scheduled for late February. This upcoming training aims to provide similar executive-level insights and support to chief deputies, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle their responsibilities.
The mid-term training in Franklin was a valuable opportunity for new sheriffs to enhance their skills, network with peers, and gain practical knowledge to better serve their communities. The success of this event highlights the importance of continuous professional development and collaboration in law enforcement leadership.
