SMART Initiative is Ready to Assist

Now that the SMART Initiative of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service has filled both the East and Middle Tennessee substance use consultant positions, they are geared up and ready to provide assistance.

SMART is still in the process of hiring a West Tennessee substance use consultant and hope to have someone on board very soon to serve that grand division.

These new experts will be providing technical assistance at no cost to Tennessee cities and counties for:

opioid abatement strategies;
grant writing and management;
community needs assessments and program evaluation; and
other additional services to fight the opioid epidemic.

Fitting in perfectly with the mission statement of the UT Institute for Public Service, these consultants represent an important step in the development of the SMART Initiative, as we strive to serve business and government to improve the lives of Tennesseans. Keeping up with the latest trends in the overdose crisis is important but time-consuming, and these consultants will be a useful part of expediting the abatement process. With these new positions, SMART can serve as a great accelerator in the fight to keep Tennesseans alive and in recovery.
